Resources

In addition to our direct programming services, HighPointe is committed to providing our clients and the broader intellectual and developmental disability community with access to important life-impacting information.

Through our Family Voices Division, we are able to provide pertinent expert advice and information that will help you access services and be more informed as you seek services for your child or client.

Like anyone else, parents of children with unique health care needs just want the best for their kids — but when your child is sick or disabled, the stakes are much higher and getting them what they need is often complicated and frustrating. Without Family Voices, families of children with special health care needs would be isolated and feel despair as they attempt to navigate multiple complex health care systems for their children. Budgets would be blown, relationships challenged. These vulnerable children could lose everything as their families disintegrate.

Family Voices Colorado believes that parents of children with special health care needs should not be alone when they face the scary and confusing task of securing care for their children. Every day we give parents the information and strength they need to navigate complex health care systems in order to get things like wheelchairs, oxygen, or surgery for their children. With our help, parents are able to be the heroes their children are counting on.

The mission of Family Voices is to improve access to and quality of health care for children and youth with special health care needs. Below is a listing of the types of resources Family Voices offers:

Advocacy

Family Voices Colorado speaks on behalf of children and youth with special health care needs, their families, and the professionals who work with them at the policy level. We gather family stories to share with state legislators and other decision-makers about how proposed laws or regulations are likely to affect the young people and families we serve, and we work with other advocacy organizations to inform and mobilize the public. We regularly partner with the Arcs and Advocacy Denver, Autism Society of Colorado, Colorado Center on Law and Policy, Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved, Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, Community Centered Boards, Covering Kids & Families, and liaisons at the Departments of Health Care Policy and Financing and Public Health and the Environment, to work for policy changes that fit our mission.

System Navigation

Family Voices Colorado understands the health care and disability systems from both a family experience and professional perspective. Whether you need help identifying resources or programs, moving beyond red tape through an appeal or grievance process, or accessing additional funding sources to pay for needed therapies, procedures, or equipment, we can provide the information and guidance you need to get answers to your questions. We work with families, health care providers, and community professionals to make sure children with special health care needs have access to the care and support they need to live life to the fullest.

We provide specialized Navigation services in the following arenas:

  • Pediatric to Adult Health Care Transitions
  • Life Coaching for Young Adults with Behavioral Health Needs
